Yaa Broni goes to town...

Submitted by admin on Fri, 2005-10-21 10:22.

You take a trip to the kitchens of most chop bars or restaurants and you will puke at the filth they cook in and the general lack of hygiene around. We are supposed to have health inspectors who go round checking these places and closing them down if need be but I hear there are not enough of them to go round so a lot of these places get off Scott-free.

It's because God loves us so much or else we would be all wiped out by now with some terrible epidemic. Go to people's houses and look into their loos, kitchens, and bathrooms and you will see what filth is all about. And yet these people will come out of their homes dressed to the nines. The filth is all around us and until the town/city/municipal/metropolitan authorities and ourselves get our acts together we will be hit with something worse than cholera. We also don't wash our hands after using the loo or similar disease spreading activities.

A whole lot of us are very guilty of this. If only we knew what kinds of deadly bacteria and germs we are carrying around and distributing to other places on our bodies, we would immediately make a conscious effort to start a washing of hands regime.

The doctors talk about the 'pure water' in the sachets being culprits of the cholera outbreak. Now why am I not surprised to hear this? There is a racket going on with the sachet water business. There is a lot on the market that is common tap water. These cheats just fill the plastic bags with ordinary water with no filtration; so in effect what you are drinking is someone's saliva (when they blow into the plastic bag to open it out),and a whole lot of germs to boot. Who is supposed to check these sachet water producers? It has to be a concerted effort to combat this canker in our midst.

There is a disgusting culture some of our so-called discerning newspapers have fast become addicted to. They are now putting personal opinions culled from the equally disgusting 'Say it loud' section on the ghanaweb and portraying it as fact and news. The notorious papers who peddle lies, lies and lies started it and now I have noticed some of the other papers have taken to this heinous practice.

It is vile, dishonest, and just evil but then again do these editors care in the first place? They have to be so evil themselves to put such stories out knowing it is someone's equally vile opinion, a lie and designed to harm and disrupt. And they call it investigative journalism and freedom of the press. What a crock! The Nigerian will say 'God done punish them'! People like this will always get their just deserts one way or the other. They really are disgusting human beings and it is a shame they call themselves Ghanaians.

The man who wrote the story of the President's per diem being 3,000 dollars is busy saying he is sticking to his story and this story was given to him by his friend who is alleged to be working in the high office of the government. For someone who says he is a lawyer, I am surprised at his insistence to stick to his "story". What story? His so-called friend should provide him with evidence. It should not be too difficult if he claims he is working in the high office.

In fact he should have had his proof with him before he whispered to his friend the lawyer who then waxed literary on ghanaweb. As a lawyer one would have thought he would not make assumptions. If his friend has guts he should provide the evidence and resign whatever post he has in principle. After all by supposedly giving his lawyer friend this piece of information he was in effect saying he did not like it.

But it all smacks of mischief most foul as usual if you ask me. This time round the supporting newspapers which usually start the lies decided to try another tack. They used someone who supposedly has good standing in his community by virtue of his profession to give whatever he was saying credence. We are so shallow and petty-minded it really beats my imagination. And due to our high levels of illiteracy and gullibility most of us will jump on the bandwagon and run with it.

It is really sickening the way we go about these issues. We have a cholera outbreak out there, we have a lot of health issues, we need to educate ourselves and move forward and instead we want to know how much per diem the President gets when he travels on our business. We wax stupidly about how the President travels too many times but we fail to acknowledge the benefits of his travels for the whole of this country.

Benefits we are all enjoying in one way or another. This is how stupid some of us are. I hear people say Rawlings did not travel as much in comparison. It is quiet simple really: He was shunned by most of these countries.
