Denis Lebel, Member of Parliament (Roberval-Lac-Saint-Jean), on behalf of the Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages and Minister for La Francophonie, today announced funding for the Péribonka Centennial Commemoration project.
The $20,000 in funding will enable the Museum to highlight Peribonka's Centennial by organizing various activities that make the general public aware of the region's historical heritage and showcase the talent of local artists.
"The Government of Canada is pleased to announce support for the Louis Hémon Museum to commemorate Peribonka's centennial," said Minister Verner. "We are proud to be associated with communities to support activities that celebrate history, arts, and heritage."
"It is important for new generations of Canadians to understand where they come from and to know about Canada's rich and diverse heritage," said Mr. Lebel. "The centennial celebrations will be a source of pride for all of the region's residents."
"The Louis-Hémon Museum of Péribonka is proud to be associated with the Department of Canadian Heritage, through its Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, to present activities that interpret history and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Municipality of Péribonka, in 2008," said Claude Simard, Director General of the Louis Hémon Museum of Péribonka.
The Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage (BCAH) program, announced in September 2007, provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
