Making sure it’s an African World Cup...
Mpumalanga has identified 20 000 beds in neighbouring Mozambique and Swaziland for the World Cup, which will ease their accommodation challenges.
This is according to the Mpumalanga government in their progress report for the tournament, which is run from Premier Thabang Makwetla's office.
Mpumalanga has roped in representatives from Swaziland and Mozambique into their technical committee to prepare for the tournament. This is part of their pledge to make the tournament a truly African World Cup.
In Mpumalanga alone, 435 non-hotel accommodation service providers have already registered with Match, a World Cup ticketing and accommodation agency.
Mpumalanga has announced that they are finalising a database of private homesteads available for the World Cup.
The province will recruit 40 percent of its volunteers from Swaziland and Mozambique .
"The of volunteers will see Mpumalanga having 60 percent with Swaziland and Mozambique providing 20 percent each," said the progress report.
"In terms of the volunteer programme, there will be 21 portals in the province. There will be 18 functional areas of volunteers."
Mpumalanga is planning to use KaNyamazane and Kabokweni sItadiums as training venues. The Lowveld Show Grounds will serve as one of the fan parks in the province.
Dina Pule, the new MEC for sports and culture, said they were using some high-profile people to introduce the fan parks .
