VANCOUVER - X-Files creator Chris Carter has been recognized by the B.C. government for his contribution to the province's television and film industry.

Tourism, Culture and Arts Minister Bill Bennett says Carter's been a driving force behind hundreds of productions in B.C. since the first episode of the television show was shot in Vancouver in 1993.

Carter's new X-Files movie is called "I Want to Believe."

The honour was presented today outside a downtown cinema by Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan before a pre-screening of the film.

Carter says filming the movie in B.C. was like coming back home and he's honoured with the recognition.

During its early seasons, the X-Files were filmed in Vancouver, but later moved its production to L.A.
